 Charles Bouchez, born in 1811, exhibited at the Paris Salon for almost ten years between 1837 and 1846. However, we know virtually nothing about the artist's life and training.

 With a regular and high-quality production, Bouchez was and still is regularly present on the art market with paintings on marine themes, of which our Return from fishing in Étretat is a most representative example.

 The artist is to be placed in the same artistic movement as his elder by a few years, Eugène Modeste Edmond Le Poittevin (1806-1870), the themes addressed and the styles being very similar.
